Korsjespoortsteeg, Amsterdam

from €15.00

2020 - Korsjespoortsteeg, Amsterdam.

The Korsjespoortsteeg is a street in the center of Amsterdam, between Singel and Herengracht. The street is crossed by the Langestraat and is named after the Korsjesbrug over the Singel. The Multatuli Museum is located at number 20, which is dedicated to the Dutch writer Eduard Douwes Dekker. Number 24, a corner house with Herengracht 77, is the monument De Drie Traancoopers from 1632. This bridge is named after a wood copper called Corsgen Jacobsz, who had an orchard on the Singel in the 15th century.

That bridge was popularly known as the Korstjespoort. The real Korsjespoort, called Oude Korsjespoort in pictures, was a city gate and was named after another Corsgen. The Korsjespoortsteeg is an extension of the Korte Korsjespoortsteeg, between Singel and Spuistraat.
